Wrap Up

I still remain nervous about identity theft and dont feel confident about communicating with people such as through facebook. Seeing other people use these forms of communicating and seeing what uses they provide say in the library should help me overcome these fears.

Spending more time on the Internet and observing what is on sites and using the various Web 2 technologies will in time give me the confidence.

On line applications and tools

Google Docs looks like a great place to share documents eg I would like to compile a recipe book with tried and true family & friends recipe books and this might be a way to go about it.

Also liked the "scrapbook album" idea - will pass on that information to a friend who is a scrapbooking whiz!

It was interesting to discover zamzar.com for converting files without the software

Slideshare might be a method of storage of photos on a memory stick for a function coming up and presenting the photos to the audience.

Mashups

I clicked on bighugelabs.com/flickr/ and downloaded a photo to the blog and created it with a "reflection" frame as a mashup.
As part of the group conversation discovered about "photo books" that are now available
Also a slide show can be made of photos in the bighugelabs.com/flickr/

Podcasts and Audio

Week 9 ... Seem to be starting to understand ("finally"!)

However, technology is letting me down - when I attempted to watch the initial explanation of a podcast, the video shut the system down! When I attempted to watch libvibe the page couldnt be displayed.

A similar scenario eventuated with every podcast I attemped to watch.

Despite this I feel I have grasped the session.

Social Networking

Had a browse around the answer boards eg digg.com and taste.com and amazon.com

Was amazed at the questions people post - why dont they pick up the phone and ask the relevant people who can answer their question.

I think it is a great idea to have librarians answering the questions and highlighting that the answer came from a librarian - great publicity for libraries.

social networking

found a beaut recipe whilst browsing ... a banana chocolate cake in the www.taste.com website http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/17570/banana+chocolate+cake

Tagging

Read through and did some searching on Delicious and Technorati. Unfortunately "Library Thing" was blocked by the web marshal and unable to follow through on that exercise

YOU TUBE

Tried to complete this section of the course, however, YouTube was down for maintenance and I was unable to complete.

RSS Feeds

It is getting late in the day and I have had to go back to my instructions to see how to add to my blog - that is not good!
I have registered myself into bloglines and have subscribed to some sites using the subjects bloglines suggested, plus added the PowerHouse Museum Picture of the Day blog.
Not sure how I could use this function in my daily work but the more I searched and especially when I looked on the google blog search, the more I became familiar with the process.
The sites I selected were more of general interest such as the news, movies etc and I can see sites of interest that I can pass on to family members.

Wiki Session

I am a bit overwhelmed by all the terminology and the technology that is available it is very difficult for me to comprehend. However, I was able to add a "Social" page to the RRL Rivitiliser.wetpaint.com site

Flickr

Next step was learning about Flickr and the enormous potential it has not only in the workplace but for home as well. Although I do not feel comfortable about the world seeing my personal photos - however having the option for "private" use would be an option.
I discovered the following photo when I searched Flickr for Lake Louise Canada (my favourite spot)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/caminu/769733054/ This photo reminds me of a trip to Canada and having dinner at the window seat of the Chateau Lake Louise restaurant and overlooking Lake Louise

First Attempt - Learning 2.0

Really, this is my second attempt ... I commenced the 12 week course six months ago and didnt go any further than week one. Today several staff are stepping through the course as a group, with the course being held over two sessions (two weeks apart).

I feel like I have been left behind with computer technology and so I hope to gain an insight into the terminology that is currently being used. I also hope to gain the confidence to use the technology to my advantage.
