Wrap Up

I still remain nervous about identity theft and dont feel confident about communicating with people such as through facebook. Seeing other people use these forms of communicating and seeing what uses they provide say in the library should help me overcome these fears.

Spending more time on the Internet and observing what is on sites and using the various Web 2 technologies will in time give me the confidence.

On line applications and tools

Google Docs looks like a great place to share documents eg I would like to compile a recipe book with tried and true family & friends recipe books and this might be a way to go about it.

Also liked the "scrapbook album" idea - will pass on that information to a friend who is a scrapbooking whiz!

It was interesting to discover zamzar.com for converting files without the software

Slideshare might be a method of storage of photos on a memory stick for a function coming up and presenting the photos to the audience.

Mashups

I clicked on bighugelabs.com/flickr/ and downloaded a photo to the blog and created it with a "reflection" frame as a mashup.
As part of the group conversation discovered about "photo books" that are now available
Also a slide show can be made of photos in the bighugelabs.com/flickr/

Podcasts and Audio

Week 9 ... Seem to be starting to understand ("finally"!)

However, technology is letting me down - when I attempted to watch the initial explanation of a podcast, the video shut the system down! When I attempted to watch libvibe the page couldnt be displayed.

A similar scenario eventuated with every podcast I attemped to watch.

Despite this I feel I have grasped the session.

Social Networking

Had a browse around the answer boards eg digg.com and taste.com and amazon.com

Was amazed at the questions people post - why dont they pick up the phone and ask the relevant people who can answer their question.

I think it is a great idea to have librarians answering the questions and highlighting that the answer came from a librarian - great publicity for libraries.

social networking

found a beaut recipe whilst browsing ... a banana chocolate cake in the www.taste.com website http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/17570/banana+chocolate+cake

Tagging

Read through and did some searching on Delicious and Technorati. Unfortunately "Library Thing" was blocked by the web marshal and unable to follow through on that exercise
